Weekly Learning Extensions
At-Home Learning
Our goal is for your child to have a rich and balanced education - one that is student-led, curiosity driven, and inspired by nature. To this aim, time in class is spent not only on developing skills in reading and exploring math concepts, but also on a multitude of other abilities and experiences.
Kindergarten students (those who are 5 or older at the start of the school year) are required to do additional practice at home, in conjunction with our in-class explorations. It is necessary that Kindergarten-aged students supplement their learning at home in order to gain the competencies which will be required in their further education. Pre K students (those who are younger than 5 at the start of the school year) may also utilize the learning extensions to practice skills at home, but are not required to do so.
When you arrive to class at the beginning of the week, you will turn in your child’s Weekly Checklist. This is meant to help you keep track of what needs to be completed, as well as giving your child an opportunity to be rewarded for all their hard work! Students who submit theirs will receive a sticker to decorate their Nature Journal with.
Numeracy
The Numeracy At-Home Learning Extensions contain 3 numeracy options per week that build on what we will be learning in class. The themes of these monthly flyers tie in with what we will be exploring in class, and it is broken into weekly sections that each focus on one of the month’s numeracy goals.
For numeracy practice, please select at least one activity for the week from the month’s Math Unit flyer.
Literacy
The Literacy At-Home Learning Extensions for each week are comprised of 3 days of activities which build on what we will be learning in class. Each Literacy Unit flyer specifies our learning goals for the month and is broken into weekly sections that detail the seed words and letter concepts for that week, with outlined activities for each day.
For literacy practice, please do all the specified activities for that week from the month’s Literacy Unit flyer.
