Week 8 (In-Person Meet-Up on Thursday, May 8th)
Focus: Project, Character Dress-Up, and Celebration
For Teachers (In-Class Meet-Up):
Character Writing and Story Recap: In the final week, children will dress up as their favorite character from Charlotte's Web and present a retelling of the story.
Materials Needed: Costumes (students can create their own with scarves, pipe cleaners, and other materials), sentence strips, and writing tools.
Goal: Improve fluency in speaking and writing while reinforcing sound-symbol connections in a creative and fun way.
Steps to Follow:
Guide the children to narrate a scene from the book while dressed as their character.
Help them write down their retelling of the scene or encourage them to draw a picture that represents the scene they are narrating.
Let them present their story to the class and to parents, reinforcing the narrative skills they’ve developed over the course of the project.
For Parents (At-Home Preparation):
Activity: Prepare for the Character Dress-Up and Story Presentation at the in-person event.
Materials Needed: Help your child gather materials to create their costume (e.g., scarves, pipe cleaners, and other household items).
Goal: Support your child’s creativity and help them rehearse their narration of the story.
Steps to Follow:
Encourage your child to choose their favorite character from Charlotte’s Web and gather materials to create a costume for the in-person meet-up.
Assist your child in practicing their narration and retelling of a scene from the story.
You can also help them write or draw a picture of the scene they plan to present.
