Week 1 (Week of March 17)
Introduction to Charlotte’s Web – Chapters 1–3
For Teachers (In-Class Reading Time):
Reading: Begin by reading the first chapters (1–3) during snack or lunch time.
Goal: Introduce the characters (Wilbur, Fern) and start setting the stage for the story.
For Parents (At-Home Activity):
Activity: Multi-Sensory Story Retelling
After the chapters are read in class, engage your child in a retelling activity at home. Use tactile materials like textured paper or sandpaper letters to trace the names of the main characters (Wilbur, Fern). As your child traces the names, they should say each letter sound aloud (e.g., "W" for /w/, "I" for /i/).Materials Needed: Flashcards with character names, textured paper, or sandpaper letters.
Goal: Reinforce phonetic awareness by having your child say the character names aloud while tracing.
Level Differentiation Options:
For younger children or those needing extra support, have them draw their favorite character (Wilbur, Fern, etc.).
For more advanced learners, have them write a simple sentence about Wilbur (e.g., "Wilbur is a pig who wants to make friends").
Discussion: After tracing, ask your child to retell the story in their own words, such as, “Wilbur is a pig who wants to make friends.
