Week 6 (Week of April 21)
Focus: Charlotte’s Sacrifice & Wilbur’s Return to the Fair (Chapters 16–18)
For Teachers (In-Class Reading Time):
Reading: Read Chapters 16–18 with the class, focusing on Charlotte’s sacrifice and Wilbur’s return to the fair.
Goal: Discuss the key events in these chapters and their emotional significance.
For Parents (At-Home Activity):
Activity: Story Mapping and Dictation
After the chapters are read in class, help your child create a story map at home where they place key events in the correct order.Materials Needed: Story map template, writing paper, and pencils.
Goal: Strengthen understanding of story sequence and improve writing skills.
Steps to Follow:
Draw a simple story map of the events, such as “Wilbur goes to the fair” and “Charlotte’s web wins a prize.”
Dictate a sentence about each event (e.g., “Charlotte made a web to save Wilbur”) and have your child write it down or trace the words.
After writing, ask your child to draw the scene that corresponds to each event on their story map, reinforcing the sequence of events.
Additional Resource: You can use this beginning/middle/end sheet to guide your child through the story structure.
