Week 4 (Week of April 7)
Focus: Charlotte's Plan to Save Wilbur (Chapters 10–12)
For Teachers (In-Class Reading Time):
Reading: Read Chapters 10–12 with the class, focusing on the plot thickening as Charlotte develops her plan to save Wilbur.
Goal: Discuss how the plot develops and how Charlotte's actions influence the story.
For Parents (At-Home Activity):
Activity: Syllable Segmentation and Blending
After the chapters are read in class, practice syllable segmentation with your child at home using key words from the story (e.g., "Charlotte," "Web," "Wilbur").Materials Needed: Syllable counters (like popsicle sticks or cubes) to count out syllables.
Goal: Strengthen auditory processing skills by practicing syllable segmentation and blending.
Steps to Follow:
Pick a word like “Charlotte” and clap out the syllables: “Char-lotte” (two claps).
Have your child repeat the syllables and then blend them back together to say the word.
Use small objects or counters to count the syllables (one for each syllable in the word).
Repeat this with other key words from the story, such as “web” or “save.”
Alternative Method: You can also use the Orton-Gillingham method of pounding and tapping the syllables. Watch this video for guidance.
