Join us beneath the trees at San Dieguito Park for a 2-hour, hands-on family co-op experience in Literacy & Narration: the Science of Nature Notebooking! This collaborative class brings together enrolled families and our wider community to learn, play, and grow alongside one another.
Parents and children will discover how storytelling, conversation, and shared outdoor experiences naturally strengthen early literacy skills. Through simple, nature-inspired strategies, we’ll explore how observation, dialogue, and narration help young learners build vocabulary, comprehension, and confident self-expression.
Potential activities include:
🌿 Create shared Nature Notebook entries — children sketch while parents help narrate their discoveries
🌿 Practice oral storytelling prompts based on what you notice together outdoors
🌿 Try playful phonological-awareness games using sticks, stones, leaves, and sound-matching
🌿 Build “conversation trails” that model rich language and inquiry
🌿 Learn multi-sensory literacy techniques grounded in structured literacy research
🌿 Explore ways to individualize learning for different ages and stages
🌿 Cultivate an atmosphere for learning at home that extends far beyond the class
This co-op is designed to empower families - giving parents practical tools, giving children joyful learning experiences, and giving the community an inviting space to learn together beneath the canopy of our outdoor classroom.
We can’t wait to grow, wonder, and create with you!
